Pratt Railway Services, Inc. is currently hiring highly motivated individuals for the positions of Signal Maintainer and Signal Helper. Applicants for both positions will have knowledge in electrical theory and experience with electronics and will be able to work independently and collaboratively in a challenging physical environment.
Construction, installation, repair, maintenance, testing and inspection of railroad signal systems.
These systems include:
Automatic Block Signal Systems
Rail-Highway Grade Crossing Protection Signal Systems
Required experience / Relevant education:
Signal Helper:
*High School Diploma or GED with one to three years related technical experience / training; or equivalent combination of education and related technical experience/ training.
Signal Maintainer:
*All applicants must be able to read schematic diagrams, maintenance and instruction manuals, understand mechanical principles, and have a working knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) 49 CFR part 234 and 236 requirements.
Preferred education / Experience: Associate Degree with one to three years related technical experience/ training; or equivalent combination of education and related technical experience / training.
New England Region
After an initial two-week orientation/training period and the ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of construction, installation, repair, maintenance, testing and inspection of railroad signal systems; employees will be notified of their section responsibilities based on the company’s needs. Travel is within the New England region and a full-time workweek may be comprised of four 10-hour days, with the possibility of additional hours.
The work of a signal maintainer performing test and inspections, or the work of a signal helper is physical, demanding work. It requires work in all types of weather, in all elements. On site, most of the work involves construction-type labor including hand-digging with shovel, pick and bar. Signal systems are installed in the same areas as underground utilities and requires that extreme care needs to be taken during construction.
It is required that applicants, when called to begin the process, possess a valid driver’s license. Employees are responsible for providing transportation to the headquarters or the work location. Pratt Railway Services, Inc. pays the cost of lodging, per diem, and a meal allowance for employees whose duties require them to travel an excessive distance to the work-site and/or stay overnight.
